FIN201 Financial Institutions and Markets This subject introduces students to the institutions and markets that make up the modern financial system. Topics covered in the subject include the different types of financial institutions, the banking industry, bank risks, bank regulation, and the money, capital, stock, foreign exchange and derivatives markets. Students are introduced to these topics using a variety of real-world examples and problems including the global financial crisis of 2008. The focus of the subject is on Australian financial institutions and markets but overseas institutions and markets, especially those in the US, are also covered.
