English Language Support

Whether you’re a prospective KBS student needing to improve your English skills to meet our entry requirements, a current student wanting to build upon your language skills, or a soon-to-be graduate preparing to take the IELTS test for the next steps of your career, KBS has the courses, resources, and people to help you achieve your language goals.​​​​​​​

Package your qualifications with a KBS English Language course

Are you planning to study one of our Business, IT or Analytics courses but you need to improve your English skills to meet the entry requirements? We offer English for Academic Purposes courses (10 or 20 weeks) that you can package with your higher education course.

  • Make the transition to your higher education course at KBS smoother by being part of the KBS community earlier. You will get access to our systems and campuses and receive student support as you study your English course with us
  • Small class sizes and individualised support
  • Study at any of our 6 campuses



English Language Self-study Modules – extra support you can tailor to your needs

Be more confident when engaging with English speakers and complete your course work to a high standard with our interactive suite of ten English Language Self-Study Modules.

  • Improve English language skills (reading, listening, speaking and writing)
  • Expand your knowledge of Australian culture, customs and everyday expressions
  • Start with the basic modules and advance to more difficult levels or pick a topic most relevant to your needs and interests – it’s up to you!
  • Modules are designed around real-life situations that you will experience while studying in Australia and cover a wide range of:
    • Language skills (vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation, writing)
    • Academic skills (formal and informal writing, writing emails, understanding phrases related to studying in Australia, critical thinking and data analysis)
    • Life skills (finding a place to live, using public transport, resolving problems with your roommates, applying for a job)

Advisor consultations and workshops

You can improve your language skills by speaking with an advisor one-on-one or participating in workshops. Our Academic Success Centre has a national team of Academic Learning Advisors with whom you can book a one-on-one consultation. Their contact information can be found on MyKBS by clicking on My Academic Support and selecting Academic Support Centre. Our Learning Advisors also run face-to-face and online workshops on a variety of academic language skills including:

• Academic Writing

• Paraphrasing Skills

• Report Writing

• Presentation Skills

• Creating infographics

• Academic Integrity


IELTS Test Prep Resources

If you are nearing the end of your study at KBS or need to take an IELTS test soon, we can help you prepare for it with our IELTS Test Prep Resources. You’ll find:

• Five self-study modules designed to give you an overview of the IELTS test and its speaking, reading, writing and listening components

• Practice tests: 20 listening tests, 20 writing tests, and 15 reading tests. The listening and reading tests are automatically marked, and feedback is provided.

The resources are available to all KBS students and alumni for as long as you have access to MyKBS.
