Overview
Kaplan Business School offers Academic English programs for those students who need to improve their English proficiency before commencing their degree course at KBS.
Our English for Academic Purposes (EAP) course is designed to develop students with the essential language and study skills required to successfully navigate academic tasks in an academic environment.
The course focuses on listening, speaking, reading and writing while developing academic and critical thinking skills.
Upon successful completion of the EAP course, students can enter directly into one of our degree courses.

Course Structure and Outcomes
The KBS English for Academic Purposes course offers either EAP1&2 (20 weeks) or EAP2 (10 weeks).
EAP1 – Intermediate
EAP2 – Higher Intermediate
At the end of the course, students can achieve the following:
Listening
Listen to academic lectures and use effective note-taking strategies
Reading
Read using various techniques to comprehend academic texts
Speaking
Prepare and deliver oral presentations
Participate in informal and formal discussions
Writing
Construct paragraphs, academic essays and reports
Critical thinking and study skills
Apply critical thinking and various study skills, including referencing, group work strategies, and time management.
Entry requirements
All students applying to study at Kaplan Business School must satisfy the entry requirements for the desired course.
Ladia graduated from KBS in 2019 and is now the financial controller at Future Business Technology Group (FBT Group). FBT Group has a strong industry partnership with Careers Central. Whenever there is a job vacancy, Ladia contacts Careers Central for candidates and has employed a ‘family’ of 5 KBS alumni to work with her.

How to apply
To apply for an English for Academic Purposes course, you will need to complete a KTE test with us and we can help you with your study plan. Alternatively, provide us with a Kaplan approved English test.
WHAT IS KTE?
KTE (Kaplan Test of English) is Kaplan’s advanced, cloud-based, adaptive English language assessment. Understanding your needs allows us to place you in the correct class and fine-tune your learning experience.^
STEP 1
Download and complete the application form. Enrolment terms and conditions apply.
STEP 2
Provide certified* copies of your:
- Passport
- High school certificates and transcripts (if applicable)
- English proficiency documents e.g. IELTS test certificate or equivalent (if applicable)
- Degree completion certificate and transcripts (if applicable)
- Work experience details (if applicable)
* Please note that these documents must be certified by a Kaplan Business School representative or authorised education agent, a Public Notary or a Justice of the Peace in Australia.
STEP 3
We will notify you after receiving your application whether you have been accepted or not. If accepted, you will receive an Offer of Admission to study.
STEP 4
To proceed with your enrolment, you will need to:
- Login to online Applicant Portal
- Submit the evidence required to meet the condition(s) outlined in the Offer (if applicable)
- Carefully read your offer including Terms and Conditions
- Accept the Offer and complete the payment in the Applicant Portal
STEP 5
Once you receive your electronic Confirmation of Enrolment (eCoE) from us you can proceed to apply for an Australian student visa.
^ From 1 May 2023, Kaplan Business School will offer KTE tests to Cambodian and Vietnamese students via ProctorTrack. ProctorTrack is an online exam proctoring (invigilation) service that is used to ensure test security and detect cheating. For more information, download the KTE Test ProctorTrack Manual.
